Maryland Guv Wes Moore trolls Trump over his 'bone spurs' as he recounts his Army joining story at DNC
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Maryland Governor Wes Moore took a dig at GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump during his Democratic National Convention (DNC) speech on Wednesday, August 21, over the former president's 'bone spurs' by referencing his Army joining story.
Moore delivered the speech two years since he won his first-ever race for public office and became Maryland's governor in 2023 with the endorsement of former President Barack Obama, according to the Daily Mail.
Moore: I joined the army when I was 17. In fact, I was too young to sign the paperwork. I had to ask my mom to sign it for me because I do not have bone spurs. pic.twitter.com/oU0kwDId2U

Wes Moore uses his Army joining story to ding Trump over his 'bone spurs'
Moore said during his speech, "Making America great doesn't mean telling people, 'you're not wanted'. Making America great means saying the ambitions of this country wouldn't be complete without your help."
He said this while talking about the six Marylanders who had been on the Francis Key Scott Bridge in Baltimore in the middle of the night fixing potholes when they lost their lives after a ship collided.

He added, "It's the legacy of those workers who fixed potholes on a bridge while we slept. Who were born in a different country but knew that America was big enough for them too."
Moore took a jab at Trump for dodging the draft with claims of bone spurs. He said, "Now, I joined the Army when I was 17. In fact, I was too young to sign the paperwork. I had to ask my mom to sign the paperwork for me because I don't have bone spurs."
Moore served in the US Army from 1998 to 2014. He was activated after the September 11 terrorist attacks and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2005 and 2006.
He added, "I led soldiers in combat in Afghanistan and my training taught me that you never learn anything about anyone when times are easy. You learn everything you need to know about somebody when times are hard and when the temperature gets turned up."
Moore recalls Harris' support in Baltimore bridge collapse
During the DNC speech, Moore detailed the phone call he had with Vice President Kamala Harris after a massive container ship slammed into the Francis Key Scott Bridge in Baltimore on March 26, 2024.
He said that Harris assured him, "We are here with you every step of the way." He added, "While many said it could take 11 months to reopen the Port of Baltimore, we got it done in 11 weeks."
He also said, "You never learn anything about anybody when times are easy. You learn everything you need to know about somebody when times are hard and when the temperature gets turned up. And America, I saw that Kamala Harris is the right one to lead in this moment firsthand."
